GVB Amsterdam
GVB wanted to realise a new state-of-the-art operation control system which, besides standard functions such as constant tracking of vehicles and their operating status, and the display of dynamic passenger information, also had to provide for some significant additional tasks. For example, the existing complex infrastructure, evolved over many years, had to be integrated into the new system.
The new operation control system provided by PSI is based upon the PSItraffic platform. This is a powerful, event-driven, control centre based system that can be scaled to almost any size. Thanks to its flexible concept of team and multi-user capability and the option to integrate third party systems, PSItraffic is a comprehensive information and communication platform for public passenger transport which is mobile IP ready. In order to ensure efficient data communication between vehicles and the control center, various forms of data communication are used, including trunk radio, radio LAN and GSM/GPRS. An intelligent data routing function selects the ideal channel depending on availability and the priority of the information to be sent. For GVB these technologies were integrated onto the existing on-board computers. The new operation control system includes an automatic track assignment and dynamic passenger information function at tram stations which have several tracks, taking into account the current operating conditions. The existing displays were retained and integrated via communication equipment already in place or newly installed.
