Vehicle Equipment

The vehicle equipment is the mobile component of PSItraffic. It comprises the board computer and ticket printer, as well as passenger information systems and communications equipment.

The board computer with its standard interfaces is the core of the PSItraffic vehicle equipment. GPS-based positioning information, speedometer pulses and beacon telegrams are sent to the board computer via standard interfaces (e.g. IBIS bus). The board computer uses the data supplied to automatically and continuously compare the timetable to the current vehicle position.

This information enables the vehicle to determine its current position, to inform the ticket printers accordingly and to control announcements over the PA system and on-board display units. Furthermore deviations between the timetabled and current vehicle position are communicated to the driver and the control center.

The up-to-date target/actual comparison in the vehicle checked against the simulation of the operating situation in the control center enables operating costs for data transmission to be reduced substantially in PSItraffic.

The basic data (e.g. data on fares, timetables, detours, etc.) required for operating the vehicle components is generally imported after working hours. All standard means of communications (e.g. GSM/GPRS, trunking, W-LAN and memory modules) are supported. Changes made at short notice are sent online to the vehicle.

The supply of data described here enables the vehicle to be operated in vehicle-autonomous mode (radio or control center malfunction). In this case, the data available in the vehicle is used to control, for example, the announcements over the PA system, on-board display units and to inform the system when the vehicle departs from a station.
