Berlin, August 14, 2002 - PSI has received a major contract from GVB Amsterdam for delivery of a new traffic control system. The contract involves the installation of a new control centre and added functionality for several hundred busses and trams, based on the latest in-vehicle computer technology. Including a 10-year maintenance agreement, the contract is worth several million Euro.
The computer-assisted control system with integrated GPS (Global Positioning System) will considerably increase the attractiveness of bus and tram travel in Amsterdam, making public transport faster and more punctual, enabling disturbances to be swiftly identified and resolved, and allowing passenger information to be improved by synchronisation with actual travel times.
As the first major international order for the new generation of computer-assisted traffic control systems developed by the PSI subsidiary PSI Transportation, the GVB Amsterdam contract represents an important step towards the internationalisation of the company’s traffic control division.
